National Youth Art MonthYOUTH ART MONTH

Youth Art Month (YAM) is an annual observation each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. Established in 1961, Youth Art Month provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts that are not possible in other subjects offered in the curriculum.

Student art from Zionsville schools will be on display during the month at 25 locations around town, and Youth Art Month First Friday Receptions will be held on Friday, March 7, from 6-8pm at Robert Goodman Jewelersand The Sullivan Munce Cultural Center. Everyone is invited!

Take advantage of these YOUTH ART MONTH activities and art displays in Zionsville:

• Free art classes will be held at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library each Saturday during the month of March.
• March 1 @ 11-12 noon: My Art "Dragon Drawing" / Grades K-6
• March 8 @ 10-11am: Zionsville Community Schools "Creating a Batik" / Ages K-12
• March 15 @ 10:30-12 noon: Sullivan Munce "Fish Kites" / Grades K-6
• March 22 @ 11-12 noon: A Space to Create / "Drawing Your Dreams" / Ages 5 and up

Amy Sorrells will be signing her first book, How Sweet the Sound.  The novel takes place in the south and is centered around the Harlan family w ho have suffered tragedies through three generations.  Ultimately they find healing and redemption which begins through faith.  Amy wrote an inspirational column for the Zionsville Times Sentinel for several years.  She is active with Mission to the Ukraine, is an advocate for RAINN and is a nurse and a mother of three children.

Going along with the theme of domestic violence in the novel, donations of blankets and  toiletries to benefit Helping Hands Shelter in Lebanon will be collected at the event.  Feel free to call 733-1747 to reserve your copies of the books ahead of time.

Meredith Eastwood will be signing her book, Treasure Link: Adventures of a Hemingway Cat.   Attendees will enjoy opportunities to create cat or dog gifts for their pets. GhostWalk is a 45-minute guided walking tour of the historic village of Zionsville, where guests stop at up to 7 different vignettes to experience re-enacted ghost stories from Zionsville's past.
